Facing Eternity

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, Job 14:10-16

Just outside of London, a tombstone visible to all passers-by has this inscription: “Wanderer, Stop and think. I am in eternity, you are on the banks.”

It is Solomon who declared that “God has also set eternity in the hearts of men” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Life on earth is but a short span on the banks of eternity. The time for us to leave this bank can come so suddenly that it is better to be prepared.

That is why we must stop and take the time to reflect before going ahead and preparing ourselves.

Reader-friend, you can cross the ocean of life without calling out to Christ, but know that one day you will have to disembark.

The question you must ask yourself is ‘on which side?’ May you say like Job, “I know that my redeemer lives… after my skin has been destroyed, I myself will see Him… you will know that there is judgment!” (Job 19:25-29).

Think: Look to Christ, recognize your sins, your unworthiness, and repent.

Act: Follow Christ in the path of obedience. “He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” (Hebrews 5:9).
